Cookflo is a meal-planning app made by an independent developer. The short version: Cookflo has no accounts, shows no ads, embeds no analytics or tracking, and never sells or shares your data with anyone. Almost everything the app knows lives only on your device. The rest of this page spells out the exceptions, precisely.
What stays on your device
The following never leaves your iPhone or iPad (except via your own iCloud device backup, which is governed by Apple's terms, not ours):
- Your preferences — household size, cook nights, time per meal, cooking goals, favorite cuisines, dietary restrictions, and allergies.
- Your meal plans and any changes you make to them.
- Your grocery lists and what you've checked off.
- Your cooking progress within a recipe (checked-off steps).
- Your recipe ratings and any private notes, as stored for your own use in the app.
What touches iCloud
Cookflo uses Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) for a small number of features. CloudKit rides your device's iCloud sign-in; Cookflo never learns your name, email address, phone number, or Apple Account identity, and never requests identity discovery. If you're not signed into iCloud, these features quietly do nothing and the app still works.
- Community ratings. When you rate a recipe thumbs-up or thumbs-down, an anonymous vote (recipe, verdict, and an opaque random identifier) is stored so the app can show honest aggregate numbers like "90% of cooks loved this." One vote per recipe per person; re-rating updates your vote.
- Recipe feedback. If you add a written note when rating, the note and verdict are stored privately — readable only by you and by the developer, who uses feedback solely to improve the recipe library. Feedback is never shown to other users.
- Skip signals. If you tell the app you didn't cook a planned meal, an anonymous signal is recorded so frequently-skipped recipes can be improved or removed.
- Free-trial start date. The date your free trial began is stored in your private iCloud database and your iCloud Keychain, so your trial is counted honestly across your own devices and reinstalls. This date is visible only to you.
Apple Health
Cookflo can optionally log the dinners you cook to Apple Health. This is off by default and only happens if you turn it on and grant permission.
- Cookflo only writes to Health (the meals you cooked and their nutrition). It never reads any of your Health data.
- Your Health data stays in Apple's Health app under Apple's protections. Cookflo keeps no copy.
- Health data is never used for advertising, marketing, or any purpose other than the logging you asked for, and is never shared with anyone.
- You can disconnect at any time in Cookflo's settings or in the Health app, and delete logged entries from the Health app.
Apple Reminders
If you choose "Add to Reminders," Cookflo writes your grocery list to Apple Reminders with your permission. It only creates and updates its own list; it does not read your other reminders.
Notifications
Dinner reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. No notification data leaves your device, and no push-notification service is involved.
Subscriptions and payments
Cookflo's membership is purchased through Apple's App Store. Apple processes all payments; Cookflo never sees your payment details. Purchases are verified on your device using Apple's signed transactions — no Cookflo server is involved.
What Cookflo doesn't do
- No user accounts, and nothing to sign up for.
- No third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or trackers of any kind.
- No sale, rental, or sharing of any data with third parties.
- No collection of your location, contacts, photos, or browsing activity.
Data retention and deletion
Deleting the app deletes all on-device data. Data in your private iCloud database belongs to your iCloud account and can be removed by deleting the app's iCloud data in Settings. To have your anonymous community votes or feedback removed, email us with the approximate date and recipes involved and we'll remove them — that's the practical limit of what we can identify, since votes aren't linked to your identity.
Children
Cookflo is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
